About
The Mildura Horse Trials was started in 2006 by three Year 12 students as part of their Equine Studies course. The event was a success and is now run annually by the local pony club.
In previous years, the event has attracted competitors from Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. The Mildura Horse Trials was not held in 2008 due to the Equine Influenza outbreak and horse movement bans. During that time volunteers spent many hours upgrading and redesigning the Cross Country course, with the professional guidance of Ewan Kellett. Ewan is an internationally accredited cross country course builder and was invited to Hong Kong to assist with construction of the cross country course used for the Beijing Olympics.
In February 2011 the grounds received extensive flood damage and as a result the 2011 Horse Trials was canceled. Much of the cross country course remained submerged in water for months. The club has spent the remainer of the year repairing and rebuilding the grounds to their former glory.
The good news for 2011 was the completion of the new clubroom shed, providing a huge under cover area with a great view!
Work also continues on the camping facilities.
2013 saw the completion of some more fantastic grounds upgrades, including the new levelled camping area and the second enclosed show jumping arena.
The club strives to improve the cross country course and general facilties each year, with many exciting projects on the books for the not too distant future. If you have any suggestions / feedback for our competitions or facilities, please e-mail our club: [email protected]
